CORAL SPRINGS, FL – As she walked into a hospital room on Tuesday, the 19-year-old from Coral Springs who is recovering from a rare cancer got a surprise on her birthday.

“Aww, you’re going to make me cry,” Claudia Medeus said as a medical team from Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital in Fort Lauderdale started singing the “happy birthday song.”

Claudia is receiving treatment at the children’s hospital for Rhabdomyosarcoma, a type of cancer that forms in the tissue, the hospital said in a news release. She is hoping she is well enough to attend college in Tallahassee in the fall.
