CORAL SPRINGS, FL – During the coronavirus crisis, it’s not often that we see a couple wheeled out of a hospital together, holding hands and waving to supportive medical staff.

But it does happen – and, on Tuesday, it happened at Broward Health Coral Springs.

Four days ago, Louis and Doris Branker arrived at the hospital, suffering from COVID-19, the hospital system said on social media.

While separated during their stay, they communicated by phone. Within days, they were both feeling better and eventually recovered from the virus.

On Tuesday, the Brankers held hands and their belongings as they were wheeled out of the hospital to the loud sounds of cheering and clapping by dozens of hospital staff members. Doris waved back at one point.

The joyous departure was part of the hospital’s “Code Happy” procedure to bid farewell to patients who have recovered from the virus.
