CORAL SPRINGS, FL -- Maribel Gutierrez is seven-months pregnant and looking to make final decisions on her delivery.
She joined close to 300 expecting mothers and their families on Saturday by taking a tour of Broward Health Coral Springs The Maternity Place and learning about obstetric, pediatric and other services during the hospital’s “Are You Expecting?” event.
“It’s really impressive,” Gutierrez said, as she prepared to tour the private delivery and post-birth private rooms.
The free event offered families everything they need to know about bringing a baby into the world: breastfeeding, infant Heimlich Rescue and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) training as well as pool safety, car seat installation, and yoga demonstrations. They also got to chat with medical and parenting experts.
“The goal for today is to let our community know what we have to offer,” said Sabra Henry, a nurse manager at the maternity unit, which opened in 2018. “We have a brand-new women’s hospital, and our labor and delivery unit is state-of-the-art with brand-new equipment and private rooms.”
As she toured the hospital and talked to vendors, Gutierrez was particularly interested in hypo-therapy as she considers all methods for her delivery.
“I found that really interesting,” said Gutierrez, who lives in Coconut Creek.
And that was the point of the event: to let families know all options when it comes to maternity services, Henry said.
“I hope people walk away today with an understanding of what our community hospital has to offer them as well as community education,” Henry said. “We want people to leave here with a bit more knowledge about safety and how to care for their babies and what’s available in our community.”
