CORAL SPRINGS, FL – Last week, after allegedly shoplifting at a 7-Eleven on Wiles Road, a 19-year-old fled in his car with Coral Springs police in pursuit, a police report said.
With lights and siren on, an officer followed Jacob Shadwick in his brown Pontiac through the Costco parking lot and on Coral Ridge Drive before calling off the pursuit because it was deemed unsafe.
A short time later, police caught up to Shadwick at his Coral Springs home in the area of 43 Court and 115 Avenue, the report said. They discovered that his license was suspended twice and he had a prior conviction.
Shadwick, who works at the Burger King on Sample Road, was charged in the April 20 incident with fleeing and eluding, driving with a suspended license (second conviction), reckless driving, and curfew violations (shoplifting and fleeing are violations of the coronavirus emergency order).
Police were doing a separate shoplifting investigation.
According to the report, Shadwick told police he didn’t see the officer pursuing him when he drove off from the 7-Eleven. He blamed the heavy tint on his car windows. Police said they didn’t see any tint on the windows.
