CORAL SPRINGS, FL – In the early morning hours, a police officer spotted two young men dressed in dark clothing, walking next to the Coral Springs Auto Mall on West Atlantic Boulevard. As soon as the men saw the officer, they turned around and went the opposite direction, a police report said.

Later that morning, on May 7, police stopped the men, Lavince Lockett, 21, of Lauderdale Lakes, and Vincent Valentine, 20, of Fort Lauderdale, in an unlit parking lot, the report said.

They found a fanny pack on Lockett containing two handgun magazines and cash, the report said. He initially told police he was going to a friend’s house but later said he committed two car break-ins in the 800 block of Twin Lakes Drive in Coral Springs. He told officers he used a “window punch” to smash the windows of the locked cars.
