CORAL SPRINGS, FL – Three young men bailed out of their allegedly stolen BMW after running a red light near Coral Square Mall in Coral Springs, getting involved in two car crashes, and causing a traffic backup on Thursday afternoon, a police report said.
Police caught up to them in Coral Springs, including a 19-year-old who jumped into a canal and was found hiding under a canoe, the report said.
The incident started around 5 p.m. when a police officer from Fort Lauderdale and officers from Coral Springs tried to do a traffic stop on the BMW next to the mall on Atlantic Boulevard after finding out the BMW was believed to be stolen and involved in an armed robbery in Coral Gables, the report said.
Police arrested three: Davante Dawkins, 20, of Margate, Adam Graham, 19, of Lake City, S.C., and Isaiah Clarke, 20, of Lauderhill.
Dawkins was charged with grand theft automobile, fleeing police officer, crash-leaving scene with injury, red light-failed to stop, and three counts of crash-leaving scene property damage.
Graham and Clarke were charged with loitering or prowling and obstructing officer without violence.
As a result of the BMW running the red light, the total damage to the three cars was estimated at $31,000, the report said. One person suffered a leg injury.
Police found an empty pistol magazine in Graham’s pocket, the report said. Graham told police he didn’t know who the magazine belonged to.
Dawkins remained Friday at the Broward County Jail on $5,000 bond for his charges.
