CORAL SPRINGS, FL – Last week, a 48-year-old man walked into the Lowes store in Coral Springs and allegedly walked out with a $249 Yeti cooler without paying, a police report said.

When police caught up to Julio Flores, they found out that he tampered with the store’s security system by wrapping aluminum foil around the cooler -- which made the cooler’s security device inoperable -- as he exited the store at 3651 Turtle Creek Drive, the report said.

Flores was charged with petit theft and using an anti-shoplifting device, the report said. He also had two prior theft convictions.

In all, Flores is accused of stealing $289 in merchandise when he came to the store on July 8, the report said.

The store’s loss prevention officer recognized Flores when he walked into the store because of his previous charges, and notified police, the report said.

The officer stopped Flores as he left the store and Flores turned over the stolen items. Police then arrested Flores in the parking lot.

Flores was being held Monday at Broward County Jail on a $750 bond for the theft charge and no bond on the anti-shoplifting device charge.
