CORAL SPRINGS, FL – A 20-year-old jogger broke his knee this week after getting chased by a coyote in a Coral Springs park, police said.

“It just came right at me,” said Isiah Presendieu, who hurt his leg as he ran from the coyote on Tuesday evening at Three Mountains Park at 9200 NW 1st Street.

The coyote was about to strike Presendieu, but then another person at the park, Timothy Marcus, who saw what was happening, took out a gun and fired it toward the animal, which got scared and ran off. Marcus had a valid concealed weapons permit, police said.

“He saved me,” said Presendieu, who is recovering at Broward Health Coral Springs.

The incident happened after Presendieu and his friend Michael Principato were exercising at the park on the city’s south side, just east of University Drive. The park has a scenic hilltop and the two men were running up and down when the coyote suddenly appeared just before 7 pm.

The city closed the park after the incident until further notice.
