A 29-year-old man attempting to get through a security checkpoint at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport died this week in custody of Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies.
The incident happened shortly after 9 a.m. on Thursday when Miramar resident, Kevon Todd, allegedly yelled at Jet Blue staff and then tried to run through a security checkpoint in Terminal 3, sheriff’s office said. Todd resisted deputies’ attempts to stop him before finally being detained.
While in custody, he became unresponsive as paramedics attempted life-saving measures, sheriff’s office said. He was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale where he was pronounced dead at 11:25 a.m.
During the process of stopping Todd, BSO staff suffered minor injuries.
The cause of Todd’s death has yet to be announced, sheriff’s office said.
BSO’s homicide detectives are investigating further.
