The Coral Glades High School cheerleading coach Alison Madej said her team is energized heading into the future following an eighth-place finish over the weekend at the national competition at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando.
The Jaguars competed in the super varsity, non-tumbling division and missed by one spot of moving on to the finals.
“We had a few issues, but overall I was very pleased with our season and am looking forward to building on our experiences this year for next year,” Madej said. “We had two falls and a near fall for six points in deductions. Without those, we would have qualified fifth and moved into finals.”
Madej said she is already planning football cheerleading tryouts for the 2020/2021 school year and the 20/21 competition team.
“We had a near-perfect season and the girls were just excited to be here,” Madej added. “We have never attended (nationals) before. This is our first time. So to finish eighth our first time out is a huge accomplishment.”
