CORAL SPRINGS, FL - Coach Robens Decius and his Coral Glades High School boys soccer team will have to wait another year to win a regional soccer game after falling 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday night to visiting Spanish River in the Class 7A regional quarterfinal.

The Jaguars (8-7-4) captured their first district championship last week and entered the regional playoffs as the third seed, however, the sixth-seeded Sharks (13-5-1) escaped with the victory.

Spanish River took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Diego Reyes before Coral Glades equalized and sent the game into overtime on a goal by Robert Banhegysi in the 78th minute. The Sharks’ Daniel Stefanov scored in the 89th minute and Spanish River held on for the win.

“It was like another regular-season game for us,” said Decius, whose team had an up and down regular season. “We didn’t play up to our potential. We were unable to adapt to Spanish River’s strength. We are happy to make it this far, and we’ll be back next year.”

Coral Glades had only reached the postseason twice before in school history, in 2005 in Class 4A and in 2010 in Class 6A, both as the district runner-up and has yet to win a regional game.
