CORAL SPRINGS, FL - The slipper is off for the Cinderella Trojans.
J. P. Taravella High School’s boys basketball team, which made history winning its first district championship since the school opened in 1981 as well as its first regional game during the same span, lost in the regional semifinal on Tuesday night.
Taravella forward Jean Francois led the way with 18 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Trojans lost to Forest Hill, 99-79 in the Class 7A regional semifinal. Stephen Mills had 16 points, while Kerby Dumay added 15. Reilly Berg had 11 points and Jalen McKenzie scored nine in the defeat.
The host Falcons (27-2) had a balanced attack with five players scoring in double figures. They opened the game on an 11-0 run.
The Trojans (17-6) captured their first district championship in the school’s 39-year history with a 54-52 victory over Deerfield Beach and then, a few days later, made history again with a 64-62 win over visiting Wellington in the Class 7A regional quarterfinals.
