CRANFORD, NJ – Following stand-out performance in soccer and cross country, Caroline McCaffery and David Bartley have been chosen as Cranford High School’s Athlete of the Week.
McCaffery, a senior on the varsity soccer team, led the back four defensive line last week, resulting in a 2-1 record for the Cougars.
“I like the competitive spirit and being with my teammates,” McCaffery said. “It’s a fun sport.”
McCaffery is committed to play soccer at the University of Scranton next year.
“The women’s national team inspires me,” she said.
Bartley, a sophomore, was the varsity cross country team’s top finisher at both the Union County quad meet with a personal best course time of 18:03 and the Brett Taylor invitational with a personal best 5K time of 17:42.
“I have a lot of friends that do cross country and that motivates me,” he said. “The best part of cross country is being with the team and having fun.”
Although he has two years of high school left, Bartley is starting to think about college.
“I hope I get into a D1 or D3 school,” he said.
