SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ - In a regular season matchup of the two teams that will play in the semifinal round of the Union County tournament on Saturday, the Cranford Cougars won a decisive 9-1 victory over the Raiders at Scotch Plains-Fanwood on Thursday.

Winning pitcher Kevin Donovan held the home team to just one run on five hits on a blustery afternoon in Scotch Plains. Meanwhile, Cranford took advantage of 9 hits, 6 walks, 2 balks, and 3 Raiders errors in a sloppy game. 

Sam Schetelich drove in the lone Raiders run with a single in the second inning. James Shriner went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored for the Cougars.

Cranford has now taken two games from the Raiders this season. Earlier this season, on April 10, they stunned the Raiders with a walk-off 3-2 victory. Thursday's game was not as close.

The two teams will play their biggest game of the season on Saturday in Cranford when they meet in the Union County tournament's semifinal.
