On October 25th, the Student Council at Brookside Place School held a fundraiser to raise money and awareness for the Donna M. Karlis Foundation and Team Roar.
Mrs. Karlis was a teacher at Bloomingdale Avenue School and Orange Avenue School. Unfortunately, Mrs. Karlis passed away from breast cancer in 2017. Her family started the foundation to help others that suffer from the disease.
Proceeds that are raised through this foundation benefit local metastatic breast cancer patients through the Somerset Health Care Foundation. It also benefits METAvivor Research and Support, Inc. METAvivor is dedicated to providing support for women and men with metastatic breast cancer and funding research to transition MBC from a terminal illness to a controlled, chronic condition. The students at BPS were able to raise close to $400 for this foundation, and wore pink in her honor.
