Celebrate Holy Week at First Congregational Church

First Congregational Church invites visitors of all ages to observe Holy Week with special services beginning on Palm Sunday, March 25, and continuing through Easter Sunday on April 1, in the sanctuary at 125 Elmer Street in Westfield.

The Palm Sunday service on March 25 will begin with a traditional Palm Processional. Children are invited to meet in the Chapel Lounge prior to the 10 a.m. worship service to receive palms and join in the processional. 

The annual cake auction hosted by the middle and senior high students will be held during coffee hour immediately following the service.  Raffle tickets will be sold for a chance to win any of the fanciful homemade cakes, with all proceeds going to Heifer International, a humanitarian organization dedicated to ending world hunger.

Maundy Thursday will be observed on March 29 at 7:30 p.m. with a candlelight service recalling the Last Supper and Jesus’ final hours through scripture, hymns, reflection and Communion.   A Good Friday service of meditation and reflection will be held on March 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the church’s Patton Hall.

Easter Sunday worship celebrations will be held on April 1 at 9 and 11 a.m. Both services will feature music for organ, brass quartet, and choir, including Widor’s “Toccata” and both Beethoven’s and Handel’s “Hallelujah” choruses under the direction of music director Dr. Barbara Thomson. Rev. Dr. Mark Boyea, senior minister, will deliver the morning’s message. A one-room schoolhouse and infant care will be available at both services.

First Congregational Church, a member of the United Church of Christ, is located at 125 Elmer Street in Westfield.  The sanctuary is accessible a wheelchair ramp and features a newly-installed hearing loop for the hearing impaired.   For further information, please call the church office at 908-233-2494 or visit their website at www.fccofwestfield.org.
