CRANFORD, NJ - Small Business Saturday is a campaign begun by American Express to encourage shoppers to forgo the big box stores and malls and support their local downtown merchants. Last year, more than 80 million people across the nation strolled their downtown stores on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, this year, Small Business Saturday is Nov. 28.

Downtown Cranford businesses are a big part of what makes the Cranford community unique and a number of the local businesses will have sales and promotional events to kick-off the holiday shopping season. Shoppers will also benefit from free parking in the parking lots all day Saturday and they can head over to the clock at Eastman Plaza to hear some holiday music.

Kathleen Miller Prunty, director of the Office of Business and Economic Development commented on what Small Business Saturday, "We appreciate our Cranford businesses every day but Shop Small Saturday is an opportunity to raise awareness of how important each of these shops, restaurants and services are to our community. Whether downtown or elsewhere in Cranford, each of these business owners chose to invest in our town."
