CRANFORD - Congratulations to this week’s Cranford High School Athletes of the Week, Miller Schulman and Anna Horne.
Schulman serves as a team caption on the boys tennis team and is a four-year varsity player. He currently has a career best 11-4 record.
The boys tennis team was eliminated in the first round of the North Jersey Section 2 Group 3 tournament by Scotch Plains-Fanwood and currently stand at 8-8 on the season, a vast improvement from last year's 3-12 record.
Horne, a senior on the girls varsity lacrosse team, has been the starting goalie for the last four years. She recorded her 800th career save against Pequannock in her last regular season game and had a 15-0 shutout against Parsippany Hills on Senior Night.
"I moved up to varsity my freshman year and I started off slow," said Horne this past Thursday. "I was younger and it's hard being 14 and you're having 17 and 18 year olds shooting on you. Throughout the years with the support of my teammates, coach Berk, and working really hard, I think it allowed me to progress."
"Not a lot of goalies get 800 saves because they typically aren't in goal long enough," said Berk of Horne this past Thursday. "She comes up with so many amazing saves. She sees the ball really well and I think another thing is that she is a lefty and a lot of girls are use to shooting on the opposite side of the goal so she definitely presents a challenge to them."
