CLARK - There are just two weeks to go until the 9th Annual UNICO Italian-American Feast, a fall favorite in the Township of Clark.  The grounds of the municipal building will be transformed into a carnival fun-zone with rides, games of chance, crafts, novelties, music and, of course, FOOD! Italian favorites such as sausage and peppers, pasta, pizza and zeppole will be served up alongside international treats from gyros to Korean barbecue. Beer and wine are available for the grownups.

Held every year over the Columbus Day weekend, the feast will be open, rain or shine, the following days and times:

With live bands and DJs throughout the weekend, music will surround festival-goers for dancing or just singing along. The entertainment lineup:

  • Saturday at 6 p.m. - Sounds of the Street
  • Sunday at 4 p.m. - The Cameos

The annual Columbus Day ceremony will take place at noon on Sunday, Oct. 11.  Winners of the Columbus Day essay contest will read their winning entries.

Volunteers are a critical part of the feast’s success and Ralph Bernardo, UNICO chapter president, is still looking for helpers to sell 50/50 tickets and work in festival booths. Email rbernardo@ourclark.com to find out more about volunteering at the feast.

The weekend festivities are a UNICO community project. Proceeds from the event are used to fund scholarships and support other community groups such as youth sports leagues and senior citizens.

UNICO is the largest Italian American service organization in the United States and one of the few active organizations still operating in the area. The club operates under the guiding principle of “Service Above Self.”  For more information about the Clark Chapter of UNICO or about the upcoming feast, call 908-337-7773 or visit the website at www.clarkunico.com.

The Clark UNICO Italian-American Feast will be held on the grounds of the Clark Municipal Building and Recreation Center, 430 Westfield Avenue, Clark, NJ.

Dear Editor:

As a 26-year-old Scotch Plains resident who cares more about the well-being of our town than about local politics, I am extremely disappointed that the Scotch Plains Democratic Committee leadership has decided to abandon Colleen Mahr in her run for Chair of the Union County Democratic Committee.

Mahr, who as Mayor of Fanwood for 15 years has worked closely with Scotch Plains ...
