ELIZABETH, NJ - Local nonprofit Community Access Unlimited (CAU) raised more than $55,000 for programs to serve people with disabilities and at-risk youth last week at its 2018 CAU Golf Classic, held at Suburban Country Club.

With Valley National Bank as the event sponsor and the support of the business community, 100 attendees representing 53 businesses supported the agency and its members through participation, sponsorships, and donations.

CAU is a statewide Union County-based nonprofit providing support programs and services to adults with disabilities as well as at-risk youth to enable them to live independently in the community, providing support in areas including housing, vocational skills, and life-skills training, education, advocacy, and recreation.

"There is a reason we have the word community in our name," said Harold Poltrock, Esq. and president of the CAU board of trustees. "We believe in empowering our members to live fully integrated lives within the wider community. We also believe in partnerships and we cannot fulfill our mission without the support of our community partners. Their turnout for this event speaks as positively about them as it does about us."

“As a concerned corporate citizen with long-standing ties to the community, we are dedicated to helping improve the quality of life of the neighborhoods we serve," said Mwaura Muroki, vice president at Valley National. "That’s why we are proud to support Community Access Unlimited in their mission to provide community access through effective and comprehensive services to people with developmental disabilities, youth aging out of foster care and individuals with affordable housing needs.”

Other sponsors included Innovative Benefit Planning, Sopher Financial Group, BCB Community Bank, Elizabeth Pharmacy, Spire Group P.C., Woodruff Developers, Corbett Exterminating, and many other generous individuals and local business partners.
