Congregation Beth Israel Announces Purim Services

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains will hold age-appropriate services on Saturday night, March 11 and Sunday morning, March 12, in celebration of the Jewish holiday of Purim. Both services are free and open to the community.

Congregation Beth Israel will hold a Purim service geared for adults on Saturday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. The Megillah, the Book of Esther traditionally read on Purim, will be read in its entirety at this service.  Attendees are encouraged to dress in costume as is customary during Purim. Congregation Beth Israel’s Men’s Club will perform a funny Purim “spiel” (play) during the service and will provide free pizza and drinks.

Families with young children are encouraged to attend Congregation Beth Israel’s Purim service on Sunday, March 12 at 9:45 a.m. for an abbreviated kid-friendly reading of the Megillah. Children are also encouraged to wear costumes, and there will be a costume parade at the end of the service.
