CRANFORD, NJ - According to a press release issued by NJ Advance Media, the Cranford Chronicle will cease publication this week.
"For the subscribers of the Cranford Chronicle, their subscription will be replaced with a weekend subscription to The Star-Ledger, which will continue to include coverage of the Cranford community," said the company.
This change will take effect June 4, according to Paul Provost, VP of Local Operations at NJ Advance Media.
When asked for comment regarding the closing of the paper and the trend to move news online, Cranford Mayor Andis Kalnins commented, "I am disappointed to see the Cranford Chronicle shutting down. Today it is becoming increasingly more difficult to get local news. We need to work to bring government agencies up to date to work with alternative news businesses that can provide local news and continue to be sustainable."
