CRANFORD, NJ – The Cranford VFW Post 335 has announced Call Lieutenant for the Cranford Fire Department, Ronald Marotta will be the recipient of its Fireman of the Year for 2016.
VFW Post Commander Jay Boxwell said, “Today is gives me great please to recognize a longtime resident and active community member Ronald Marotta as Fireman of the Year for 2016.”
Marotta, a member of the department since 1978 was promoted to Call Department Lieutenant in May 1992. “Ron continues to be a positive role model for our department and community,” said Boxwell.
Marotta has achieved many things during his 39-year membership on the Cranford Fire Department.
A priority for Marotta is the young members of the department, he is motivated to ensure they are trained at the highest level and are given the skill and knowledge to be safe and successful firefighters.
He is integral in the development and implementation of the Call Department’s training program. These training topics are based on Fire Science principles and also other specialized areas.
A responsibility he takes very seriously in an effort to ensure Call Department members have the knowledge to safely carryout all assigned tasks on a fire scene. Marotta also brings his private sector work experience to the department and continues to assist officers in the areas of leadership and management.
Motivated to serve his community from a very young age, Marotta comes from a family that was extremely involved in community service. “He aspires to make the Township of Cranford the best place to live.”
He is also the co-founder of the Cranford Police Department Explorer Post.
