CRANFORD - Erin Esposito and Karena Andreassen of Cranford were part of the championship-winning 2021 East team at the Maverik National Lacrosse Classic, which was held July 16-19 at the DE Turf Sports Complex in Frederica, DE. The 2021 East regional team defeated a previously undefeated South regional team, 5-4, to capture the 2021 Girls Division title.

The Maverik National Lacrosse Classic is the first-of-its-kind lacrosse experience created to provide lacrosse athletes with a competitive process to benchmark their skills and athleticism, qualify for selection to represent their state or region in a national tournament, and gain recognition by competing in front of NCAA lacrosse coaches from every division. More 1,800 of the nation’s top high school and youth lacrosse players participate in this event each year.

The East region team was comprised of 2021 graduation year players from across New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The team finished pool play in second place with a record of 2-1-1 and defeated the North region team, 9-3, to earn their spot in the championship match.

Andreassen and Esposito were members of Cranford High School’s Girls Varsity team this past season as freshmen. They are also alumni of the Cranford Lacrosse Club’s youth program.
