CRANFORD - Cranford High School has signed on to play in the NJ Last Dance World Series, which gives graduating senior baseball players one last chance to play with their teammates following the canceled Spring 2020 season.
The tournament will feature 222 high schools and starts on Tuesday, July 14, with the championship game being played at Arm & Hammer Stadium in Trenton, home of the New York Yankees’ Double-A affiliate Trenton Thunder, on July 31 at 7 p.m.
Participating teams have been divided into North and South regions, and the tournament will kick off with pool play, guaranteeing each team three games July 14-16. Cranford's Memorial Field will be hosting the pool play 13A bracket, and the opening day schedule is as follows:
Game 1: Union Catholic vs. Newark Central, 2 p.m.
Game 2: Cranford vs. Linden, 5 p.m.
A win on Tuesday would advance Cranford to play the winner of Game 1 (listed above) at 2 p.m on Wednesday. A loss will put the Cougars against the loser of Game 1 on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Depending on the results of Day 1 and Day 2, Cranford would face a crossover team from the 13B bracket, which consists of Union, David Brearley, Elizabeth, and Roselle Park.
Following pool play, the remainder of the tournament is single-elimination, and is tentatively set as follows:
North Region Sweet 16: July 21
South Region Sweet 16: July 21
North Region Elite 8: July 22
South Region Elite 8: July 22
