Arrested: Naheema Faine, 23, Linden

Arrested by: Ptl. Thomas Bell

Charges: Possession of Under 50g (Marijuana); Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Remarks: A 2008 Toyota was stopped on Centennial Avenue for a seatbelt violation. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Bell arrested the driver, Naheema Faine, for suspected marijuana located inside the vehicle. She was processed and provided with a Municipal Court appearance date. Additionally, she was issued motor vehicle summonses for being a suspended driver, a seatbelt violation, and a brake lamp out.

North Avenue East and Carpenter Place

Arrested: Richard Talbert, 31, Newark

Arrested by: Ptl. Shayne Temple

Charges: Driving While Intoxicated (DWI)

Remarks: A 2001 Honda was stopped on North Avenue East and Carpenter Place for erratic driving. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Temple arrested the driver, Richard Talbert, for driving while intoxicated. He was processed and provided with a Municipal Court appearance date. Additionally, he was issued a motor vehicle summonses for careless driving, failure to keep right, and a brake lamp out.

 

3. 06/16/2018 @ 10:16 p.m.

Cranford Terrace and Centennial Avenue

Arrested: Leo Sotomayor, 30, Linden

Arrested by: Ptl. James Knight Charges: Driving While Intoxicated (DWI)

Remarks: Police units were dispatched to check on a 2015 Nissan located on Cranford Terrace near Centennial Avenue East. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Knight arrested the driver, Leo Sotomayor, for driving while intoxicated. He was processed and provided with a Municipal Court appearance date. Additionally, he was issued a motor vehicle summons for improper parking.

 

4. 06/17/2018 @ 8:43 a.m.

Centennial Avenue and Hayes Street

Arrested: Troy Barrientos, 27, Linden

Arrested by: Ptl. Gregory Federici

Charges: Possession of Prescription Legend Drugs; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia 

Remarks: A 2002 Cadillac was stopped on Centennial Avenue and Hayes Street for an improper lane change. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Federici arrested the driver, Troy Barrientos, for prescription legend drugs located on his person. He was processed and provided with a Superior Court appearance date. Additionally, he was issued motor vehicle summonses for not signaling a turn, having an unregistered vehicle, not having a valid registration or insurance card in his possession, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.

Raritan Road and Centennial Avenue

Arrested: Valentino Stylianou, 20, Linden

Arrested by: Ptl. Daniel Donnerstag

Charges: Possession of Under 50g (Marijuana); Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Remarks: A 2008 Mercury was stopped on Raritan Road and Centennial Avenue for erratic driving. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Donnerstag arrested a passenger, Valentino Stylianou, for suspected marijuana located inside the vehicle. He was processed and provided with a Municipal Court appearance date. Additionally, the driver was issued a motor vehicle summonses for failure to keep right and not having a valid insurance card in his possession.

 

6. 06/18/2018 @ 5:15 p.m.

South Avenue West

Arrested: Darryl Hayes, 58, Newark

Arrested by: Ptl. Corey LoForte

Charges: Shoplifting; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance; Possession of Paraphernalia

Remarks: Police units were dispatched to a business on South Avenue West for a reported shoplifting. Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. LoForte arrested the suspect, Darryl Hayes, for shoplifting and possession of suspected crack cocaine. He was processed and provided with a Superior Court appearance date. He was also found to have four criminal arrest warrants out of the Township of Hillside.

Rutgers Hikes Tuition, Student Fees for 2018-2019 Academic Year

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - Rutgers University Board of Governors today approved a 2.3 percent hike in tuition and fees, as well as increases for dorm rooms and meals, for the 2018-2019 academic year.
