CRANFORD, NJ - The Cranford Police Department has arrested a man for theft after the victim witnessed the man taking his bicycle, according to a press release from the Cranford Police Department.
On September 30, the victim left his unlocked bicycle fronting a business adjacent to the Southside Train Station. He soon witnessed Kashaun Bell, 19, of Roselle taking his bicycle and alerted Officer Brian Lopez, who was patrolling the area, according to the press release.
“As we have seen an increase in bicycle thefts at the Train Station, patrols of this area have become a priority. These efforts undoubtedly led to an arrest and recovery of this bicycle,” acting Police Chief Joseph VanBergen said in the press release.
Lopez found Bell riding the stolen bicycle near E. South Avenue and Burchfield Avenue. After ordering him to stop, Bell took off on foot. Lopez followed Bell and arrested him quickly, according to the press release.
Bell was charged with one count of theft, one count resisting arrest, and subsequently released from custody pending an October appearance in Cranford Municipal Court, according to the press release.
