CRANFORD, NJ - The Cranford Police Department issued a safety alert Monday morning urging motorists to pay attention when parking their vehicles on the street. The police department has had to respond to numerous locations where vehicles parked on opposite sides of a roadway and narrowed the road to such an extend that a large vehicle could not pass.
With the large amount of snow and ice already narrowing the roads, it is important to pay attention when parking and leave enough access for emergency vehicles to get through. This can cause a significant delay in responding to life-threatening emergencies and can easily be prevented.
The average fire engine is 9 feet wide and 26 feet long -- when you park your vehicle on a narrow street, always check you have left enough room for a fire engine or ambulance to get past.
Also be aware that parking directly across from a neighbor’s driveway may prevent them from exiting their driveway.
