CRANFORD, NJ - On March 11,at approximately 4:36 a.m., the Cranford Police Department was notified of an attempted ATM, automated teller machine, theft at TD Bank located at 465 E South Ave. TD Bank security personnel reported multiple suspects on scene attempting to pull the ATM from the building using chains and a pick-up truck.
As police units converged on the scene, the suspects abandoned the pick-up truck and fled in a dark colored Jeep which was parked nearby. Cranford police units pursued the Jeep on Centennial and North Avenues to the Garden State Parkway northbound. Due to safety concerns, fog, and wet road conditions, the pursuit was terminated in the area of the Union toll plaza.
Recovered in the bank parking lot was a 2002 Dodge Dakota pick-up truck that had been reported stolen in Old Bridge NJ, as well as the TD Bank ATM which had been pulled away from the front vestibule of the bank. The scene was processed by members of the Cranford Police Department Detective Bureau and the Union County Sheriff’s Department.
