CRANFORD, NJ - Cranford Police Department Communications Officer Kyle McCartney received a 911 call on Monday shortly before 10:30 p.m. from a Hillcrest Avenue man stating that his wife was in labor.

According to Cranford Police, Officer Gregory Federici was the first to arrive on the scene and determined that Gina Petrillo-Medler’s water had broken. With the assistance of Petrillo-Medler’s husband, Kase Medler, officers Ryan Gerrity and Brian Trotter, Federici delivered a 7-pound, 13-ounce baby boy, Kasey Thomas Medler at 10:38 p.m.

The mother and baby were transported to an area hospital for evaluation, and are in good health.

“These types of calls are not a common occurrence, but the officer’s training and instincts kicked in, making for a successful outcome,” said Cranford Police Chief James Wozniak.
