CRANFORD – In a new ranking from Niche.com, Cranford has been ranked No. 53 on the "2020 Best Places to Live in NJ" ranking.
The No. 53 ranking is a 24-spot rise from last year's No. 77 ranking. The ranking also lists Cranford as the sixth best place to live in Union County, a rise from last year's seventh best ranking.
The total list ranked 417 towns, plus other municipalities without a listed ranking.
Niche.com's ranking, which is based on public data sets and millions of reviews, gave Cranford A+ ratings for its public schools and good for families, an A for nightlife, outdoor activities, and health & fitness, B+ for crime & safety, diversity and commute, B for housing and jobs, B- for weather, and a C for cost of living.
"Our data scientists and user researchers rigorously analyze data and user opinions to assess the key aspects of K-12 Schools, Colleges, and Places to Live," the website reads. "Every month, millions of students and families use the Niche grades and report cards to find the right school or neighborhood."
Niche listed Cranford's median home value at $474,200, with 80 percent of the population owning and 20 percent renting. The median monthly rent in town, Niche said, is $1,677. The Median household income in Cranford is $126,655.
The top five communities in the Niche ranking were Princeton, Princeton Junction, Upper Montclair, Ridgewood, and Mountain Lakes.
