CRANFORD, NJ – Cranford’s Vincenzo Savinelli, known fondly as “Vinny,” is bringing his childhood home to Cranford with Yale Terrace Brewery.

The brewery was created by Savinelli and his three closest childhood friends, who met in middle school and have remained in touch ever since.

“Yale Terrace is a street in West Orange that we all grew up on,” Savinelli told TAPinto Cranford. “We were there all day, every day. It was just loaded with kids and fun things to do.”

Years later, after taking turns as best men in each other’s weddings and exploring their individual careers, the quartet decided to bring their talents to Cranford.

“My friends and I have been brewing beer since we were in our late teens,” Savinelli said. “One day on the golf course three years ago, one of my now-partners mentioned opening a brewery. I said ‘You know what? I’m in. It’s gotta be in Cranford, though. They need a brewery.’”

Yale Terrace Brewery is right next door to one of Savinelli’s other restaurants, Vinny’s Pizza & Pasta, which he runs with his wife, Theresa. His mother, Giovanna, works as a server at Vinny’s and his two children, Nicoletta and Dominic work there as well.

“We live in Cranford, we work in Cranford, I raised my kids in Cranford,” Savinelli said. “All roads lead back to Cranford.”

The brewery will feature a rotating menu of eight beers on tap, music and cozy, wood and brick décor. Guests can order beer flights, pints and growlers.

“We want it to be a place where people can feel comfortable,” Savinelli said. “We’re all laid-back and easy-going. We’re willing to explain the beer process to anyone who’s interested. We make more than 25 different beers, but eight will be on tap at all times. We’ll switch seasonally and so forth.”

Yale Terrace Brewery is located at 26 Eastman Street, right next door to Vinny’s Pizza & Pasta. The brewery is celebrating a trial run this week, with a soft opening and grand opening coming shortly.

“Yale Terrace is more of a dream, a hobby that we love doing,” Savinelli said. “We’re not there to break the bank, we’re just there to have a good time.”
