CRANFORD, NJ - The Cranford Township Committee in a Special Workshop meeting Tuesday, Sept. 8, appointed Republican Barbara Bilger to fill the vacancy on the committee. The vacancy, a result of the required resignation of Deputy Mayor Lisa Adubato, upon her appointment as a New Jersey Superior Court Judge.

Bilger served two previous terms on the Township Committee. During her tenure she served twice as Mayor and two years as Deputy Mayor.  

Mayor Kalnins stated, “Barbara Bilger brings a ton of experience to the committee and her involvement in the community and organizations makes her stand-out.”

All committee members voted in favor of the appointment including; Mayor Kalnins, Commissioner Mary O’Connor, Commissioner Robert D’Ambola and Commissioner Thomas Hannen, who voted yes “in the spirit of cooperation.”

Bilger will fill the unexpired seat until November. Her name, along with a Democratic candidate’s name will be on the ballot when the seat goes up for general election on Nov. 3. The winner of that contest will assume the seat immediately.

Bilger will be officially sworn in at the Cranford Township Committee meeting on Sept. 15.
