CRANFORD - Union County is under a flash flood warning Friday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. due to heavy rain showers and thunderstorms from Tropical Storm Fay, according to the National Weather Service.

A flash flood warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low-lying spots, the weather service said.

“Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads,” the weather service advises. “Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.”
