CRANFORD, NJ – Cranford wrestler Niko Cappello added another milestone to his already accomplished wrestling career, Cappello won his 100th match earlier this month. Cappello becomes only the seventh Cranford High School wrestler to join the “100 Win Club.”
When asked what this milestone means to him, Cappello said, “It means a lot to join a prestigious group of wrestlers that have gone through Cranford, to be a part of that is very special.” He continued, “It is a great accomplishment in my sports career that I will definitely always remember.”
Cappello achievements are because of his strong work ethic, he wrestles year-round at the national level and in his spare time he can found in the gym working out. Cappello said, “I want to be the best I possibly can.” It is also the love of the sport that drives him, “I love to be able to physically dominate someone on the mat and to that in a 1 on 1 match it’s only me out there and no one else,” he said.
On Cappello’s 100th victory head coach Pat Gorman commented, “100 career victories is a huge accomplishment, and I am proud of Niko for reaching this milestone. He has greater goals to reach this year and is training hard each day at achieving those goals but this is definitely another feather is his cap. Congratulations to him and his family.”
His high-school wrestling highlights include; two-time team and individual Union County Champs, District 11 champs three years in a row, Region 3 champs, NHSCA three-time All-American, First Team All-Conference three years running, First Team All-State and seventh-place in the New Jersey State Tournament.
Looking forward, Cappello said, “Up next is to move on, continue wrestling and finish the season strong.” Cappello will continue his wrestling career and the University of Maryland.
