Cranford Wrestling, District 11 Champions

CRANFORD, NJ – Saturday was a day of repeats for Cranford wrestling, competing at the NJSIAA Districts, District 11-Final Round. The Cougars won their second straight team title, Gavin Murray and Niko Cappello each won their third career individual titles, teammates Tom DiGiovanni, Chris Scorese and Vince Concina, all won their second individual titles.  On the day, Cranford had six champions including Anthony Capece, at 106 lbs., who captured his first title and three wrestlers who placed second.

Cranford placed first with 203 points, behind them in second, Scotch Plains-Fanwood with 169 and Rahway in third with 122 points. In addition, the Cougars have 10 wrestlers who qualify for Region 3 competition. Regions begins on Wednesday Feb. 25, 4 p.m. at Union HS.

106 lbs. - Anthony Capece won a 12-3 major decision over SABRI MURRAY of Rahway HS.

120 lbs. - Tom DiGiovanni won a 9-0 major decision over Jack Cannon of SPFHS.

126 lbs. - Chris Scorese won a 9-0 major decision over Jashmar Philippe of SPFHS.

132 lbs. - Vince Concina won an 8-2 decision over Devin Jefferson of Rahway HS.

138 lbs. - J.T. Beirne of SPFHS won on a technical fall over Dave Busch at 3:09.

145 lbs. - Brian Lapham of SPFHS won on a technical fall over Brian McGovern at 5:26.

152 lbs. - Gavin Murray won on a technical fall over MAJID ABDUR RAHMAN at 2:53.

160 lbs. - Jarek Gozdieski of Westfield won a 7-0 decision over Andrew Tompkins.

182 lbs. - Niko Cappello won a 9-3 decision over Jaylen Bryant of SPFHS.
