CRANFORD, NJ – Following her personal best on the winter track team, Sasha Knapp was named Cranford High School’s Athlete of the Week.

Knapp, a junior, cleared a height of four feet, 10 inches in the high jump during the Union County Meet. She also posted personal best times in the 55-meter dash and the 55-meter hurdles.

“I want to do it in college, so that motivates me,” Knapp said.

Knapp looks up to Sydney McLaughlin, a hurdler and sprinter for the University of Kentucky’s Track and Field team.

“She went to Union Catholic High School, so I saw her at meets,” Knapp said. “She’s amazing.”

Like McLaughlin, Knapp hopes to run track and field at the collegiate level. She hopes to attend a school in Florida for the warmer weather, she said.

“My favorite part of running track is just trying hard, getting in the zone and succeeding,” Knapp said.

Knapp will compete in the State Sectional Championships on Friday, Feb. 2.
