SPRINGFIELD, NJ - Longtime Springfield residents Mr. and Mrs. Sailesh Patel of Hillside Avenue were approved for a drive through Dunkin Donuts at 30 Route 22 in Springfield. They are doing business as Soni Realty LLC.
The site currently has an abandoned Checkers' restaurant on the property. Safety was a concern of Board members at the meeting Tuesday night. The meeting chaired by Vice Chair Greg Roth peppered the experts with multiple questions about the safety of the traffic flow and signage issues. The property is on the median with three points of entry. The Department of Transportation did evaluate the application since it is situated on a State road. The DOT ruled that no new permit will be required.
The coffee shop will operate 24 hours a day with five employees. Only one drive up window will be utilized instead of the two used for Checkers'. The footprint will be expanded by 50 percent to accommodate seating for ten. Landscaping will be significantly enhanced.
The application was approved unanimously.
A second application for front and side yard variances was also approved unanimously. The property at 49 Evergreen Avenue was placed awkwardly on the lot necessitating a variance for expansion.
The next Board of Adjustment meeting is scheduled for March 20, 2018.
