Some of the New York's finest Thoroughbreds stepped on to the Belmont tracks to compete for $1.75 million in purse money on Empire Showcase Day on Oct. 21.

Robert D.Rosenthal and Bradford Bernstein's Berning Rose lead off the stakes parade with a 1-1/2-length win in the $250,000 Maid of the Mist for 2-year-old fillies at a mile on the main track.

With Kendrick Carmouche in the saddle for trainer Dominick Schettino, they bay filly won her second race from three starts. She has earned $223,800.

The home bred is a daughter of Freud from the Flying Chevron mare Peach Flambe.

Newman Racing's homebred Absatootly, a 4-year-old daughter of Mineshaft from the Freud mare So Not So, outran four rivals in the stretch to win the $150,000 Iroquois for fillies and mares at 6-1/2 furlongs on the main track.

Carlton Baker named Joe Bravo on the bay filly for her sixth win from 17 starts earning $385,107.

Trainer Chad Brown and jockey Javier Castellano teamed up to win the $200,000 Ticonderoga for fillies and mares at 8-1/2 furlongs on the Inner Turf Course with Peter M. Brant's Fifty Five.

The daughter of Get Storm from the Brahms mare Soave won her fourth race from 10 starts with earnings of $359,000.

The 4-year-old came from seventh in a field of eight to post a one length win in 1:41.65.

Brown and Castellano came right back with Cobra Farm, RR Partners and Head of the Plains Partners' Twisted Tom in the $300,000 Empire Classic at 1-1/8 miles on the main track at 1:49.38.

The gelded son of Creative Cause from the Thunder Gulch mare Tiffany Twisted was bred by Dr. William Wilmot and Dr. Joan M. Taylor. His win was the seventh from 10 starts. The winner's check for $180,000 boosted his earnings to $686,121.

Owner-trainer David Jacobson sent out the veteran campaigner Ostralenka to win the $150,000 Hudson Handicap for 3-year-olds and upward at 6-1/2 furlongs on a fast main track. With Joe Bravo astride, bay was clocked in 1:16.75 on a fast surface.

The win was Ostralenka's seventh from 31 starts that boosted his earnings to $622,689. The 5-year-old horse by Musket Man from the Luouis Quatorze mare Pumpkin's Pride was bred by Eric Fein.

Ivery Sisters Racing's Black Tide made every call a winning one on his way to a 1-1/4-length win the $200,000 Mohawk for 3-year-olds and up at 8-1/2 furlongs on the firm Inner Turf Course.

Setting all his own pace, the gelded son of Hold Me Back from the Theatrical mare Turn the Tide defeated five rivals for jockey Jose Lezcano and trainer David Cannizzo to score the seventh time from 34 starts.

The dark bay, who has earnings of $450,632, was bred by Lantern Thoroughbreds.

Francis Paolangel's home bred Verdant Pastures, a 3-year-old daughter of Colonel John from the Stormy Atlantic mare Stormy's Smile, defeated eight rivals to close out the stakes card in the 8-1/2-furlong Empire Distaff Handicap for fillies and mares on the main track.

Manny Franco was aboard the bay filly for trainer Charlton Baker's second win on the N.Y.-bred program.

The win for Verdant Pastures was her third from seven starts. She has now banked $231,466 for her owner and breeder.
