EDISON, NJ – Brett Epps, a former Rutgers Prep wrestling sstar who has been searching for a kidney donor since October 2014, has finally found a match.

After several unsuccessful attempts, one coming as close as the operating table until complications arose, the 27-year-old is getting a working kidney donation from his very own girlfriend, Alixandra Cirigliano.

With a transplant, Epps will be able to slowly overcome focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), a rare kidney disease that causes scarring in the area which filters blood. Currently, he has one kidney that is non-functioning and the other operating at three percent.

The couple, now living in North Carolina, is hopeful that the surgery next month will be a breakthrough in Epps’ treatment.

The New Jersey wrestling community rallied in support of Epps, as did some of the top breweries in the state, who came to know Brett through his father Kurt Epps, (AKA The Pub Scout), one of the region's best known beer experts.
