Officer Bastardo passed away on Feb. 12, 2016, as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident. She would have turned 25 years old this month. She graduated from Rutgers University cum laude in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and Criminal Justice and a minor in criminology. While in the 113th Port Authority Police Academy Class, she was selected to be a platoon leader and was assigned to the Newark Airport Command.

These scholarships will be awarded based on the criteria set forth and will be under the HLEAUC Shields of Dreams Foundation.
