Girls JV Basketball: Cranford H.S. Easily Defeats Kent Place in First Round of County's

CRANFORD, NJ - The Cranford High School Girls Junior Varsity basketball team emerged victorious against Kent Place, 49-23, in the first round of the Union County Tournament.

The Cougars easily beat the Kent Place Dragons on their home turf. They were up by 13 points at the halfway mark, 25-12.

Freshman Liz McCaffery was a key contributor to the game, scoring 18 points.

“I played all my players and we have been working on ball work a lot,” Coach Whitney Taylor said. “I am extremely proud, they are such a talented group of girls.”

The team has had a great season so far, winning 13 out of 18 games thus far.

Kirsten Williams, a freshman on the team credits her teammates.

“My amazing teammates always support one another and make sure that we hustle down the court even when we are exhausted,” she said. “I am very proud of the team’s season especially because we are mostly freshman.”

The team will face New Providence in the quarter finals on Friday, Feb. 16.

Grace Wilson is a high school student participating in a journalism program with TAPinto Cranford.
