CRANFORD - Michael Schneider and Luke Pachkowski each scored a goal as third-seeded Cranford defeated sixth-seeded Scotch Plains-Fanwood, 2-0, in the first round of the Union County Tournament, on Monday at Warinanco Ice Skating Center.

After a scoreless first period, Schneider got Cranford on the board with 3:41 left in the second with an unassisted goal. Schneider would later assist Pachkowski's insurance goal with 3:42 left in the third.

Cougars' goalie Harry Devenney stopped 21 shots to record his third straight shutout. Devenney has now gone over 148 minutes without letting in a goal and improves his season save percentage to .933 (251-of-269).

Cranford (7-2-2) advances to take on second-seeded Westfield (8-4-2) in the semifinal round this Wednesday at Warinanco Ice Skating Center at 7:30 p.m. Cranford is winless in its last six matchups against Westfield, losing four games with two ties, dating back to the 2016-17 season.
