CRANFORD, NJ –Cranford’s Kilkenny House was the winner of New Jersey Monthly’s best Irish pub poll, sponsored by Tullamore Dew, revealed at the end of March.
Owner Barry O’Donovan, who opened Kilkenny House in 2008, was shocked by the outcome, proving victorious against 30 Irish pubs in the state.
“When we won it, I was speechless, which is very unusual for me,” O’Donovan said.
Kilkenny House is known for its wide selection of beers, including Guiness and Kilkenny Irish Cream Ale, as well as Irish entrees like fish and chips and the shepherd’s pie.
“It’s all about the regulars and all of the people who voted for us that makes it very special,” O’Donovan said. “Thanks to Tullamore Dew and New Jersey Monthly for coming up with the idea.”
According to New Jersey Monthly, the competition was fierce, narrowing down the pubs from 30 to four over the course of the month. More than 30,000 votes were cast throughout the process.
“It was great, it brought a lot of people together and it was very, very special,” O’Donovan said. “It’s nice to know that people are thinking of you. And we have to thank just everybody.”
