WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) released the following statement in response to President Obama’s plan to move terrorists from Guantanamo Bay detention facility in Cuba to the United States:
“Congress has passed and the President has signed legislation into law barring the closing of Guantanamo Bay and the transfer of its detainees to the United States. The American people agree with this law, as should President Obama.
“Bringing the most radicalized Islamic terrorists in the world to U.S. soil is not in the national interest. Congress will not compromise with the President on this matter. The detainees should remain at Guantanamo Bay.”
Lance participated in a tour and inspection of the detention operations, living conditions and medical facilities at Guantanamo Bay in May 2011.
