There is a hotly contested race on the Democratic ticket in this year’s primary. It’s at the top of the ticket for New Jersey Assembly in Legislative District 21, which includes Cranford.
Three women are running for two spots. One of the candidates, Jill LaZare, has my vote. Jill has a law practice in Summit and also works as a public defender in our district. She has argued as high as the Second and Third Circuit Court of Appeals. She has already been to Trenton to testify on behalf of pending bills. The long list of people who endorse her includes former and current New Jersey Assembly members John Wisniewski and Valerie Vainieri Huttle (who is also the current Deputy Speaker of the Assembly) -- people who know best what the job entails and who would be the right person for this job. Jill will fight to fix our transportation problems, address environmental issues, and implement fairer school funding for all of New Jersey’s students, among other priorities facing our district.
On a national level, Democrats are deciding who has the best chance of making a positive impact on the future of America. Locally, for this office in November, if we want to give ourselves the best chance electing someone who will make a positive impact in our district, we should vote on June 4th for Jill LaZare, whose name appears on the ballot at the top of Column B in Union County.
