SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – The annual Play for P.I.N.K. golf fundraiser and luncheon took place at Shackamaxon Country Club last week. More than 210 women – including Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr and Westfield Mayor Shelley Brindle – along with Scotch Plains Mayor Al Smith and boxing legend Gerry Cooney participated.
The event raised more than $40,000 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, according to Shackamaxon.
The guest speaker at the luncheon was Dana Kaplan Richter, a two-time breast cancer survivor, lawyer and mother of three. The Humanitarian Award recipient was Gina Pachkowski, a certified yoga instructor and owner of Alluen Yoga in Cranford.
The Play for P.I.N.K. event was co-chaired by Beth Hornstein and Shari Berman. Together and with their committee, they spent months organizing the event, finding sponsors and collecting silent auction items that would increase the overall donation to BCRF.
Play for P.I.N.K. supports events in 30 states with more than 30,000 annual participants turning their passion for golf, tennis and other sports and lifestyle pursuits into substantial support for breast cancer research. To date, Play for P.I.N.K. has raised nearly $53 million to help support scientists at leading academic medical institutions around the world, according to the organization.
