CRANFORD - Luke Pachkowski has been named the George C. Slocum Hockey Scholarship recipient.
Pachkowski served as the captain this past year for the Cranford hockey team and was named to the First Team All Conference. He finished the season with eight goals and a team-high 13 assists, helping lead Cranford to a Kelly Cup Championship and a 12-7-4 record.
"(Pachkowski) set goals for himself at the end of last season to be named First Team All Conference and lead this squad to a Kelly Cup Championship," said Cranford Ice Hockey head coach Mike Ozolnieks. "By accomplishing both those goals, he showed this team, and I think more importantly himself, that hard work truly does pay off. His leadership skills on and off the ice have set a foundation for future captains to follow, and I have no doubt this will lead him on to many other accomplishments in the future."
Following 40 years without a hockey team, Slocum was the man behind the efforts in resurrecting the program at Cranford High School in 1992, and a scholarship in his name was started in 1996. The scholarship goes to a graduating ice hockey senior who exhibits the same love and dedication to the CHS team.
