Man Fires Shot at Police Officer in Warinanco Park


ELIZABETH/ROSELLE, NJ - A Union County police officer was shot at after attempting to make contact with a man who was parked after hours in Warinaco Park around 12:30a.m. Saturday. According to a report from the Breaking News Network (BNN), the man fired a shot out of the window of his vehicle when the officer attempted to make contact.

The officer barricaded himself behind his patrol car until backup arrived. A standoff situation followed with the man who was threatening to kill himself with the firearm. 

An unnamed source said, the man claimed to have shot his wife. Police were able to locate the wife and she was unharmed.

Police said, Jeffrey Arana 41 of Elizabeth, had a semi automatic pistol to his head and was yelled at the Officer to leave him alone. The standoff lasted for several hours before the subject was talked down without incident and was transported by EMS to Trinitas Hospital. 

Police Units from Union County, Roselle and Elizabeth, along with the Union County S.W.A.T. team assisted at the scene.
