SUMMIT, NJ – A memorial service was held today at the Union County K-9 Training Center as a remembrance to Union County Sheriff’s K-9 Lorcan who passed away in March.

Union County Sheriff’s officer Sergeant Ryan Wilson was Lorcan’s partner.  Lorcan joined the Union County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit in May 2009 and was trained in patrol and narcotics detection. Lorcan spent his life with Sgt. Wilson on the job and with his family at home.

“When I got K-9 Lorcan and started training with him, it was like auto-pilot,” said Sgt. Wilson.  “I always knew that with Lorcan out in front of me, I would have nothing to worry about.”  Speaking about Lorcan’s final days, Sgt. Wilson said, “he was always happy to see me, no matter how sick he was.  That’s how he was up to the end.  I will always miss him.  He will forever be loved.”

Union County Sheriff Joseph Cryan said, “K-9 Lorcan was Sgt. Wilson’s shadow, moving with him from assignment to assignment, home to work, from unknown dangers to public events.  Lorcan was dual trained and together they conducted narcotics searches, building searches and tracked criminals and missing persons.  Everywhere Sgt. Wilson went, Lorcan went, side by side, step by step.”

Also attending the service were Freeholder Chairman Bruce H. Bergen and Freeholders Alexander Mirabella and Bette Jane Kowalski and K-9 officers from the Union County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies.
